TY Swiss Roll!
There are worse ways to score your first international goal! Our TY students witnessed David McGoldrick’s dramatic 85th minute equaliser this evening in the spectacular surroundings of the Aviva Stadium.
Ireland’s bid to qualify for Euro 2020 remains on track after a vital late strike secured a point tonight. Our TYs, many of whom were attending their first ever international soccer match, were treated to a dramatic finish!
The atmosphere was fabulous throughout but reached new heights after the Irish goal…there will be a few hoarse voices around MCS tomorrow!
As one student put it afterwards, “I never watch soccer, but that was class!” Olé Olé Olé!
Aoife added: “With having almost zero knowledge about Irish soccer, I travelled up to Dublin with my classmates to the Ireland versus Switzerland Euro 2020 Qualifier. I came home with a completely different view on International Soccer.
The electric atmosphere walking up to the Aviva Stadium fuelled our excitement for the big game. Everyone was wearing the coulours and chanting and singing their support throughout the game. The whole crowd fell into silence when Switzerland scored their goal in the last fifteen minutes. Even though we were down one-nil, the Irish fans continued to chant “Come On You Boys In Green” and “The Fields Of Athenry” even louder. It was amazing to see 45,000 people get behind the team with such fervour when they went behind. Everybody was so together and united.
The stadium rocked when David McGoldrick scored the equaliser. Coming home with all voices gone, we all collectively decided that we would happily travel to another Irish soccer match. We’re all fans now!”
