Language and Culture Night

Dancing, singing, music, costume, talks on countries all over the world- Nigeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Albania, Fiji- a fantastic night of celebration of the rich cultural diversity in our school- this is the language and culture night. Special guest on the night- rebel hero Seán Óg Ó hAilpín gave a passionate speech on the importance of getting involved in your community and his own story of moving to Ireland as a ten-year old showed this.

Over the course of the evening, we travelled the world and learned about several cultures and even learned a few words of Albanian and Fijian.

Organised by the T.Y. Global Citizenship Education Group, a dedicated focus group of T.Y. students that meet at lunchtime to organise events in the school, coordinated by Mr Magee, the night was an opportunity for all cultures in the school to share the distinctive things from their culture- story, clothing, music, song, dance- all which made for an entertaining night full of variety and fun.

Thanks to all the local businesses who contributed the tasty samples of global cuisine for the canteen afterwards, including Aroma Café, O’Leary’s Family Butchers, Tony O’Brien Master Butcher, Herlihy’s Centra, The Wallis Arms, Supervalu and The Polish Shop.

The Language and Culture night is part of our ongoing effort to embed GCE in the life of the school.  We are grateful to WorldWise Global Schools (WWGS) for supporting our endeavours.
