Eco Unesco Award for TY Project
102 teams were in the Convention Center Dublin today to showcase their research for the UNESCO Young Environmentalist of the year award. MCS had two teams returning to Dublin, having already presented at the BT. The two teams from MCS had an early start - getting the 6:55 am train to Dublin to hold their own in this prestigious competition, Luke, Patrick and Dylan were flying the flag for the quality of North Cork’s Water, while Bevin, Darren and Omar were protecting the environment with their Herbal Leys Project.
Each group were put through their paces by a team of three judges.
A number of special guests visited including Mary Robinson and Richard Bruton.
The Herbal Leys team were recognized for their work, receiving the award in the Senior Eco-Innovation section. Both teams felt that the experience of research and team work was both fun and a great learning experience which will remain with them for life. They developed research skills and communication skills and were complimented on their scientific knowledge and articulate interaction with the judges, general public and fellow competitors.
ECO-UNESCO is Ireland's Environmental Education and Youth Organisation that works to conserve the environment and empower young people. Their aims are to to raise environmental awareness, understanding and knowledge of the environment among young people, to promote the protection and conservation of the environment and to promote the personal development of young people through practical environmental projects and activities, as well as to promote the ideals of UNESCO.
